The idea
I know this is not technically about restoring civil liberties but there is no real place that this idea would fit.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ebTQXkMUqt0 This video is the campaign for more people to become vegetarian or vegan from the animal rights charity PeTA. It shows how animals are treated in the meat industry – kept in cramped and horrible conditions where disease easily spreads and are killed inhumanely, in pain. My idea is that all meat (as well as milk and eggs) should be free range. There are things that are legal in the meat industry that are unbelievably cruel to animals so I believe there needs to be a major re-think. If people can not become vegetarian then I believe that animals should at least be treated well and humanely.
Why is it important?
My idea is important because not only would making all meat, milk and eggs free range be a good thing for animals, it would also be a good thing for the environment; effectively solving or reducing two problems with one solution. The single biggest contributor to climate change is pollution from non free range farming. Animals are fed with chemicals and huge amounts of food to grow bigger and quicker than they naturally would. Making a free range meat industry would definitely help to reduce the rate of climate change and also the treatment and welfare of animals.
