The idea
Take the sex industry out of the criminal underworld altogether by decriminalising prostitution.
Why is it important?
If the sex industry became legitimate it would be much easier to protect those who work within it, the criminal underworld would be deprived of a large part of its funding and sex workers would be able to pay taxes, thus increasing the Government's tax revenue. We are not squeamish about taxing smokers and drinkers to the hilt – even though we supposedly disapprove of their habits – why should we be squeamish about legitimising the sex industry and reaping the associated tax benefit?
