The idea
I believe that Cannabis should either be legalised or decriminalised as the benefits to our health, society and world far out way the negative factors, which in comparison to a lot of other legal drugs (including our much loved alcohol) does significantly and almost minimal harm to the user and those around them.
In America we're already seeing states taking the initiative to legalise Marijuana, at least for medical purposes, so why do we not see the same type of progressive thinking here? If Cannabis is so deadly, so harmful to our mental health, then where's the abundance of evidence to prove so? Cannabis isn't a new thing. In fact, it's cultivation and use dates back 10,000 years – a figure in which many historians agree to be accurate – so if anything negative was going to show up, it would've already done so by now.
This isn't radical thinking: it's called being progressive. We all want to live in a fairer, greener world, and with the help of Cannabis and Hemp, we're able to do so. It's time to do the research, educate the public and stop the ignorance.
Why is it important?
This idea is important because for a lot of people within the UK are negatively effected far more by the prohibition of Cannabis rather than the substance itself. With prohibition, we’re unable to always feel safe when purchasing Cannabis – whether it be due to the risk in which is being created due to prohibition (associating with criminals) or the quality of the product being purchased.
People should feel safe, at ease, not scared and fearful of persecution and arrest. People who smoke Cannabis aren’t criminals. Many of us are hard working, honest members of society who have never committed a crime in our lives. Our futures shouldn’t be put at risk due to an unjust law.
To quote Marc Emery: “It is the height of moral conscience to refuse to obey an unjust law. To obey an unjust law is to give credence to its oppressive power. To obey a law that punishes where no crime exists is to surrender to tyranny and, by acquiescence, endorsing the oppression.”.
Let’s move forward, progress towards freedom, and destroy these unjust and illogical laws.
