The idea
Prison sentences should be much longer, all too often I read about some horrific crime, pleased to then learn they have been found guilty but the sentencing has become a joke. Terrorists, murderers and paedophiles should get a minimum of 40 years with no chance of parole. These people believe they have the right to take away a life(or lives) and no one should have that right. They should be punished properly, not let out after a few years because they feel rehabiliated.
Why is it important?
It is important, because it will undoubtedly save lives in the future. Many of these criminals do re-offend when they are let out and they should not be allowed to roam free with their evil thoughts and intentions. They should be punished. There is no chance of rehabilitation for the victims who are dead or their families who will never see them again and have to carry on with life knowing the perpetrator who took away their loved ones precious life force is free after 18 or so years (less in some cases) to enjoy life and commit further crimes, taking and damaging more lives. Life is cheap and inconsequential to these criminals.
