The idea
In extradition cases, sufficient evidence must be shown for the trial of UK citizens on foreign soil, especially relating to the particular need for the suspect to be trialed in the other country.
eg. The case of Gary McKinnon.
Why is it important?
A one way extradition treaty with no evidence required severely undermines the security of our countrymen from irrational and unlawful prosecution and punishment by other world powers.
This is particularly notable when there is an underlying issue that relates to the intensity of the extradition request.
Aspergers may not be adequate defense for Mr McKinnon's actions. However the prospect of the threatened 'life long' jail term promsed by the US should be sufficent evidence that he will not be met with a fair trial.
