The idea
Please repeal the anti-smoker legislation in the British Isles. The legislation is condescending, discriminatory and the worst nanny-state example of control freak New Labour.
I – and presumably many of the 10 million other Uk smokers – am fed up with being discriminated against in pubs, restaurants, hotels, trains etc. etc. If you don't want to smoke, don't, but don't coerce everyone else into adhering to your own private convictions.
The UK anti-smoker legislation is a simplistic (and in effect lazy) interpretation of the European Directive which was intended to 'protect' non-smokers, not to discriminate primitively against smokers.
Other, more liberal and civilized European countries (Germany, Spain, Poland etc.) manage to tolerate both smokers and non-smokers in their legislation and thereby treat their citizens as adults, rather than as, as in the UK, children.
Why is it important?
This idea is important because its aim is the restoration of an aspect of civil liberties, previously lost under New Labour who steamrollered over the views and rights of a sizable minority when introducing their anti-smoker legislation..
