The idea
Repeal the Human Rights Act
Replace it with a Bill of Rights that requires people to be responsible once again for their actions and instils the need to always strive to make a contribution to the society in which they live.
Why is it important?
We have become a society where people are too often no longer responsible for their own actions; it is always someone else’s fault. Whilst sometime this is true, often it is not. People must be forced to take responsibility for their own actions, actions seem by many as simply a way to make money from the legal system or the state, or to abdicate the need for all self control.
Ultimately everybody’s actions are determined by consequence. If the consequence is bad, then people will shy away from making that choice. If people considering crime knew that if caught the punishment will be harsh, they would be less likely to risk it. If prison is seen as tolerable, it will hardly be seen as a deterrent. After all if you put your hand in the fire the result is harsh and it is one area where you can be assured that the result will be applied with no recourse to the Human Rights Act. The result? People don’t do it.
Lastly, I feel that it is somehow unjust that people who choose not to live within the rules of our society by, perpetrating serious crimes against it, should still expect to be fully protected by it.
