The idea
Nick Clegg has posted a new video on the homepage where he states very clearly that all suggestions and comments that supported any policy that the Coalition already had, will be taken seriously.
All others will be blatantly ignored.
The debate on the most commented suggestion, with a 75% approval - to moderately amend the smoking law to allow for closed smoking rooms - was shut down arrogantly.
The cynics who said this forum is an exercise in vanity – presumably to give junior something to do – which will ignore all those who do not propose something the Government wasn't already doing and ignore the rest, were sadly right.
The site has no point anymore, shut it down.
Why is it important?
If we are to take democratic debate seriously politicians will have to take seriously those ideas that are controversial, and look at the merit of the argument. By shutting down debate in the way Clegg did in the preposterous videolink on the home page, he is showing his disdain for those who disagree with him, and proving that The Liberal Democrats is upholding "the old politics as usual".
Nick Clegg is no friend of freedom; not even a friend of serious, idealistic debate.
Clegg simply restated what had been the policy of the Liberal/Conservatives from day one in the videolink.
They will take seriously all who agree and ignore the rest.
This site will only contribute to increase contempt for politicians and the political process.
Well, congratulations all illiberal, totalitarian enemies of freedom, and all cynics who says "it's no good". You were right. This is a sad day for idealism, and a good day for cynicism.
