The big idea
Stop using local call rate numbers that begin with 08
Why does this matter?
These calls carry a charge and when most people now have free calls, it's an expense we can all do without.
I use a site to look up 01 numbers and have done for years.
Got rid of our home phone and only have mobiles so never use the 08s.
I think the whole numbering system has got lost somewhere along the line it used to be easy to identify what a number was going to cost now chargeables are scattered around.
07 used to be mobiles, now ther is a scam running on them offering fake jobs on a chargeable 07 line.
Where is OFCOM? Never had many teeth seems to have lost its dentures now.
I did work for a company that distrabuted 08 numbers to companys, when you call any 08 number you are actually paying the company you are contacting and they get the money from you,so these companys are getting there telephone bills payed for and earning money off us all. So then the company will say to any call back they cant when they really can but wont to earn money and not lose it, 08 numbers need to be abolished
Can anyone help……. I have recently got rid of landline to cut costs and gone mobile only……… company I chose told me that 0800 numbers on their network were free……. it turns out that that was a lie……… they gave me a number to ring so that I could convert 0845, and similar numbers, to ordinary landline numbers which meant that those numbers would not be charged extra for, and that they would come out of my monthly allowance of 5000 minutes………… another lie / the number they gave me was an alternative for customer service……………… They gave me a website address to enable me to convert 0800 numbers to no cost; and other 08 numbers to become ordinary landline numbers…—…– You got it!!!! the site does not exist………………………………………………………………….
Do you know if there is a website that offers the service that my provider promised me.
Thanks for your help…….. Eamonn (retired)
